KEARNEY — Kearney High School received the Runner Up Class A 2023-2024 Nebraska State Colleges Multi-Activity Student Award for having the highest number of students who participate in multiple activities and/or athletics. Norfolk placed first through percentages. The award is given by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) and the Nebraska State College System (NSCS).

“Once again for the fourth time in four years of the history of this award, Kearney High School is in the Top 2 of all Class A schools and has 29 more multi-activity participants than the 1st place school in Norfolk. (NSAA uses % of total enrollment to calculate this award) This yearly success continues to be testament to our philosophy at Kearney High School and the emphasis we place on student involvement in all activities. With KHS ranking as the 20th largest Class A school in the state but also ranks consistently in the Top 10 of the NSAA Cup standings, it is great that our students CONTINUE to embrace the multi-sport/activity philosophy year in and year out,” said Ryan Hogue, KHS Assistant Principal and Activities Director. “Thank you to our coaches, sponsors, parents and patrons for all they do to support and encourage our students in their many sports, academic clubs, and activities. This is one of the main reasons why Kearney High competes year in and year out with the larger school districts in the state. GO BEARCATS!”

The award recognizes the students in grades 9-12 who participate in at least three NSAA-sanctioned activities during the academic year. Each of the state’s 15,970 high school students who meet the NSAA eligibility criteria will be recognized and awarded a certificate of achievement. Activities include:

• Fall Activities: Girls Golf, Softball, Boys Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Unified Bowling, Play Production

• Winter Activities: Girls Bowling, Boys Bowling, Girls Wrestling, Boys Wrestling, Boys Swimming & Diving, Girls Swimming & Diving, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Debate, Speech

• Spring Activities: Music, Journalism, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Baseball, Girls Tennis, Girls Track & Field, Boys Track & Field, Unified Track & Field, Boys Golf

“Earning the Runner-Up Multi-Activity Student Award in Class A is especially gratifying as it represents all of the hard work and commitment by so many of our student participants, coaches, and sponsors, “ said KHS Principal Jeff Ganz. “I am grateful for the leadership Mr. Hogue provides for our school activities and athletics programs. Congratulations to our sponsors, coaches, parents, and student participants for all you do for our school and community. GO BEARCATS”
