A little over two years after the unexpected death of ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill, his widow, Charleen, affectionately known as Chuck, is parting with close to 12-hundred pieces of his belongings as Julien’s Auctions presents The Collection of Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, a three-day sale in December.
With a portion of the proceeds going to MusiCares, she says, ”Dusty treasured all of the items in this auction and it means so much to me that the fans, who he loved, will have an opportunity to own something from his personal collection. He would be so happy to know that this auction will benefit other musicians in need through the efforts of MusiCares.”
Among the items for sale are:

Fur bass played in “Legs” video – estimate: $80,000-$120,000
- 1953 Fender Precision bass guitar, which he played more than any of his other basses — $80,000-$120,000
- MTV Moonman award for Best Group Video for “Legs”
- Bald eagle jacket with talons and feather accents down sleeves, accented with prong-set stones
Plus more stagewear, instruments, the sky-blue wool suit jacket with yellow and red embroidered flowers worn on the cover of ZZ’s 1975 album, Fandango!, boots, cowboy hat, jewelry and more.
The sale will take place at Julien’s in Dallas, where he was born, December 7th to the 9th.
Additional items that he collected, such as T-shirts, posters and other memorabilia, will be for sale at “Duzzty’s Stash” pop-up store at 915 Slocum Street in Dallas.
And, leading up to the sale, there will be exhibits at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York’s Times Square from November 20th to the 26th, and in Dallas from November 29th to December 7th.

Hill died in his sleep at his Houston-area home on July 28th, 2021. He was 72.
