ROLLING STONES: It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But They Stole It)?

By Jim Cartwright Mar 13, 2023 | 10:16 AM

A New Orleans songwriter has sued The Rolling Stones, claiming they plagiarized two of his songs.

According to Billboard, Sergio Garcia Fernandez, whose stage name is Angelslang, gave demos of “So Sorry” and “Seed of God” to “an immediate family member” of Mick Jagger and that he and Keith Richards “misappropriated many of the recognizable and key protected elements” from the songs, “So Sorry” and “Seed of God,” for the Stones’ 2020 single, “Living in a Ghost Town.” He also claims the Jagger family member has acknowledged via email receiving his demos.

In his suit, Fernandez cites multiple instances where the Stones use parts of his songs. He says vocal melodies, chord progressions, drum beat patterns, harmonica parts, the electric bass line and the tempos and other key signatures from “So Sorry” and the “harmonic and chord progression and melody” from “Seed of God” were used without authorization or payment.

The Stones have yet to comment.
