ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons announced that his third solo album, Hardware, is ready for release on June 4 by Concord Records.
Ahead of the release, Gibbons shared the first single, “West Coast Junkie,” with a video filmed near Joshua Tree in California, close to the album’s recording location.
Hardware was co-produced by Gibbons, Matt Sorum and Mike Fiorentino with additional production by engineer Chad Shlosser.
Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver and The Cult drummer Sorum also plays on the album as part of a core band featuring guitarist Austin Hanks.
Eleven of its twelve songs were written by Gibbons, Sorum, Fiorentino and Shlosser. The 12th track, “Hey Baby, Que Paso,” was first recorded by the Texas Tornados for their 1990 album Los Texas Tornados.
Rock duo Larkin Poe appears on the song “Stackin’ Bones”.
Speaking about the influence of the album’s recording location, Gibbons said, “The desert settings, replete with shifting sands, cacti and rattlesnakes makes for the kind of backdrop that lends an element of intrigue reflected in the sounds created out there.”
