GRAND ISLAND – A 82-year-old Grand Island woman in north central Grand Island was a victim of fraud that could have been worse if she hadn’t talked to her financial advisor.

Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said that the woman was contacted in an email scam about winning a lottery. The woman forwarded a $500 gift card. However, she talked to her financial advisor, who told her that this was a scam. The incident was reported at 2:13 p.m. Feb. 18.

The incident is under investigation, Elliott said.
