Grand Island city council approves one- and six-year street improvement projects

GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island’s City Council voted 8-0 July 23 to approve the one- and six-year street improvement projects for the city.
Council members Michelle Fitzke and Mark Stelk were absent from the July 23 meeting.

Public Works Director Keith Kurz gave a presentation describing the projects and their costs.

For 2024-2025, these are the proposed capital projects. For costs separated by a slash (/), the first number is the cost for 2024-2025 and the second number is the total cost.

*Annual curb ramp project, $175,000.
*Pavement condition survey, $179,000.
*Broadwell/Union Pacific Railroad overpass, $420,000/$34,210,000.
*Locust Street, Second Street to Fonner Park Road, $6.5 million, $16,100,000.
*Claude Road, State Street to 13th St., $2,441,500, $7,265,700.
*State Street Median Improvements, $180,000/$3,380,000.
*Stuhr Road, dual northbound lefts at Highway 30, $949,000/$1,076,400.
*Locust Street, Highway 34 to Wood River Diversion, $250,000/$3,059,900.
*Stolley Park Road, State Fair entrance to Stuhr Road, $300,000/$2,968,680.
*Independence Avenue, Capital Avenue to Manchester Road/Macron Street, $3,000,000/ $4,000,000.
*Wood River Diversion Bridge, $500,000.
*North 80 Wetland Delineation, $2,100,000/$3,081,400.
*Sidewalk Cost Share Program, $25,000.
*Platte Valley Industrial Park Drainage District No. 2020-1, $350,000/$600,000.
*Citywide drainage, $50,000.
*Third Street Drainage, $400,000.

The 2025 Capital Improvement Budget Summary is: Funded by Gas Tax and Sales Tax, $16,653,958; funded by General Fund, $2,975,000. Total: $19,628,958.
