PLEASANTON – A former Kearney High School girls basketball coach has now accepted the same title for the Pleasanton boys program.

Jason Boyd, a longtime coach for the Kearney Bearcat girls basketball program, announced his intention to lead the Bulldogs boys basketball team beginning next season. Boys also accepted the position as the Pleasanton Junior and Senior High School principal for the upcoming school year.

Boyd replaces Bill Giffin, as the former coach retired at the end of the season. Boyd previously served as the assistant principal for Kearney High School after being with Kearney Public Schools for eighteen years.

Boyd had coached the Kearney High girls basketball program for thirteen seasons, ending his tenure in 2019 and earning over 300 wins with the program. That run included five state tournament bids, including three out of four seasons from 2014-1017. Kearney ended fourth in the 2008 state tournament.

Since Boyd’s departure, the Bearcats have had three different head coaches: Kyle Fletcher, JD Carson, and new hire Drew Danielson.

Sidney native and former Parkview Christian assistant Brenner Keane will remain on staff as the primary assistant coach.
