Hastings College Women's Soccer // HC Broncos Athletics
The Hastings College women’s soccer team got off to a fast start but couldn’t hold on to it as they settled for a 2-2 draw with Concordia on Saturday night out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
It looked as though things were going the way the Lady Broncos were hoping for opening the game with a goal in the 23rdminute when Dulce Lopez took a long shot as she hit it high where keeper Bradi Ore reached up and kept it out of the goal only to have Naomi Pedroza cleanup the rebound for the early 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, an almost identical goal played out when Eva Dunker hit a hard shot that skimmed off the ground where Ore was able to keep that shot out of the net only to have Dekota Schubert put home the rebound for the 2-0 lead in the 25th minute.
Hastings now seemed to be in control until the Bulldogs picked up a bit of luck when Kierstynn Garner sent a low ball into the box that somehow eluded two defenders and then bounced off Jackson Pedersen‘s foot and into the net to make it 2-1 in the 38th minute.
Hastings seemed to control the game throughout but just couldn’t put CUNE away and then Garner struck again this time with a through ball as she flicked it over the keeper to tie the game 2-2 in the 73rd minute.
The Lady Broncos picked up the majority of the shots down the stretch as they did the whole game but just couldn’t find the game winner settling for the draw.
Hastings out shot Concordia 19-to-7 including 11-to-3 in shots on goal.
Hastings is now 11-1-2 (6-1-2) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 18 as College of Saint Mary comes to town with kickoff set for 8:00 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
