LOPER VOLLEYBALL MOVES UP IN SUPER REGION RANKINGS
The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked sixth in the second edition of the NCAA Regional Rankings.
The Lopers, winners of nine straight, are one of four MIAA teams in the region Top 10. The others are Central Missouri (1st), Northwest Missouri State (2nd) and Washburn (3rd). UNK is at Missouri Southern (4-24, 1-17) and Pittsburg State (14-12, 8-10) this weekend to close out the regular season. The 8-team MIAA Tournament begins next Tuesday with the top four seeds hosting matches.
UNK has made the past 21 NCAA Tournaments, the second longest active streak in Division II (University of Tampa, 24 years).
LOCAL SIGNING DAY HEADLINES:
Kearney Catholic and Kearney High both shared local signing days for their respective student athletes.
Kearney Catholic Volleyball’s Ashley Keck and Sydney Conner signed their letters of intent. Keck will continue her career at Concordia, while Conner will travel into the MIAA and compete for the Washburn Ichabods.
Kearney High had many signings Wednesday, including Bella Molina and Ella Kugler continuing their softball careers at UNK. Gracie Perez will stay in blue and play soccer for Kearney as well. Allyson Mercer also signed to become an Aqua Loper for the UNK Swimming team.
Traveling outside of Kearney, Peyton Larson signed with Concordia for his baseball career, Korben Rich signed with Northeast Community College, and Dawson Stutz inked with Garden City Community College. Wrestler Archer Heelan signed with St. Cloud St. University.
FROST BYE WEEK PRESS CONFERENCE COMMENTS

The Huskers fired Offensive Coordinator Matt Lubick, Quarterbacks coach Mario Venduzco, Running Backs Coach Ryan Held, and Offensive Line Coach Greg Austin on Monday.
FROST – COULD NOT KEEP DOING THE SAME THINGS
Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost made his bye week media appearance after Wednesday’s practice. After announcing the firing of most of the offensive coaching staff on Monday, Frost doubled down by saying changes had to be made to win games…
The Huskers offense is currently ranked second in yards per game in the conference, but struggled against quality opponents in matching other high-powered offenses.
FROST – EASY DECISION TO MAKE SACRIFICES FOR TEAM
Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost addressed the media during the Wednesday bye week presser, speaking on the recent changes to Nebraska Football’s staff.
In addition to the removal of most of the offensive staff, Frost also restructured his contract and reworked his total pay and buyout. Frost said it was an easy choice…
Frost opened up nearly $2 million to hire a new coaching staff with his contract restructuring.
FROST – NOT LOOKING FOR MAJOR CHANGES TO STAFF

Frost continued that he enjoys learning more from new coaches coming in. Athletic Director Trev Alberts also added that Frost is likely to give up play-calling duties once a new staff is hired.
FROST – WILL NOT HIRE UNTIL AFTER SEASON ENDS
As Head Coach Scott Frost addressed the media regarding the departures of most of the Huskers offensive staff on Monday, and told the media not to expect any replacements coming soon…
The rest of the regular season concludes with the Huskers facing two Top Ten defenses in Wisconsin and Iowa – the Badgers first in yards allowed at only 213 per game, and the Hawkeyes at tenth, giving up 304 yards per contest.
FROST – SPECIAL TEAMS COACH A POSSIBILITY
Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost restructured his contract to open more availability to hire additional coaches after the removal of most of the offensive staff.
Another sore subject for the Huskers in Frost’s regime has been the lackluster special teams; when asked if a special teams coordinator may be hired, Frost added that the unit has significantly improved under Mike Dawson but won’t rule out anything…
Dawson is currently pulling double duty as the outside linebackers coach and special teams assistant for the Huskers.
FROST – HEAD COACH WILL STAY PART OF THE OFFENSE
Head Coach Scott Frost will continue play-calling duties for the rest of the season after the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Lubick.
Frost and Athletic Director Trev Alberts both spoke about the need for Frost to step away from play-calling duties once a new staff is hired, but Frost wants to find the right play caller for his system…
Alberts said on Sports Nightly that Frost’s ability to be a head coach and correct small mistakes and miscues will be aided by giving up play calling duties.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SENIOR NIGHT TIME SET
The Nebraska volleyball team’s Saturday, Nov. 20 Senior Night match against Rutgers has been set for a 7 p.m. start time
The home finale will be televised on Nebraska Public Media — formerly known as NET — in a statewide broadcast from the Devaney Center. It will also be streamed on Big Ten Network+ and heard on the Huskers Radio Network.
NEBRASKA WOMEN PREPARING FOR WIN NUMBER 2
The Nebraska women’s basketball team shoots for its second win of the young season when the Huskers play host to Prairie View A&M on Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Tip-off between the Huskers and Panthers in the first meeting in series history is set for 7 p.m.

NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL INKS THREE ON SIGNING DAY
Head coach John Cook announced Wednesday the signing of three student-athletes to make up the Nebraska volleyball program’s 2022 signing class. NU’s recruiting class is ranked No. 2 by PrepVolleyball.com, and all three Husker signees intend to enroll at Nebraska in January.
This year’s signees include middle blocker Bekka Allick of Waverly (Lincoln, Neb.), setter/defensive specialist Maisie Boesiger from Norris (Firth, Neb.) and outside hitter Hayden Kubik (West Des Moines, Iowa).

HUSKER WRESTLING GETS THREE IN SIGNING DAY
Nebraska head coach Mark Manning announced the addition of Jacob Van Dee, Harley Andrews and Antrell Taylor on Wednesday who are set to join the Huskers for the 2022-23 season.
Van Dee comes from Pennsylvania, Andrews from Oklahoma, and Antrell Taylor is a soon-to-be graduate of Millard South.
HAKE CONFIRMS SIGNING WITH NEBRASKA WOMEN
Nebraska Head Coach Amy Williams announced the signing of Callin Hake, one of the top players in the state of Minnesota, to join the Husker women’s basketball program for the 2022-23 season.
Hake, a senior at Chanhassen High School in 2021-22, signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Huskers on the opening day of the signing period.. Hake originally made her commitment to join the Huskers in July of 2020.
JACKSON WINNER OF ARMED FORCES AWARD
Damian Jackson was named the winner of the 2021 Armed Forces Merit Award. The national award is presented by the Football Writers Association of America and coordinated by the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
MARTINEZ NAMED TO WITTEN AWARD LIST
Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the fifth annual Jason Witten College Man of the Year Award.
The Witten Award is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player’s leadership, both on and off the field. The semifinal group is composed of players who all demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity, and sportsmanship.
Martinez is a four-year starter and the first three-time captain in Nebraska football history. He ranks second in school history in total offense with 10,418 yards and is also second in school history with 8,140 passing yards.
STORM’S MONTGOMERY ANNOUNCES COMMITMENT
Tri-City Storm forward Drew Montgomery has announced a commitment to play collegiate hockey in the future at Colorado College. Montgomery is currently in his second season with the Storm and has appeared in every game with the team to this point in the 2021-2022 regular season schedule.
Montgomery of Grand Forks, North Dakota, returns to this year’s team after scoring two goals and registering four assists in twenty-nine games played with the Storm last season. Montgomery made his USHL debut on November 13th, 2020, in Tri-City’s 5-1 road loss to the Omaha Lancers. He scored his first career USHL goal on January 29th, 2021, in the Storm’s 6-0 home victory over the Omaha Lancers.

Nebraska had the ninth-highest point total in school history and was the first time the Huskers had over 100 points under Williams.
NEBRASKA PREPARES TO HOST HOME STATE DUALS
The Nebraska wrestling team will host the Nebraska Duals on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Devaney Center. The Nebraska Duals will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the Huskers taking on UNK. Following the matchup with the Lopers, the Huskers will wrestle Chadron State.
The Nebraska Duals provide fans with a chance to get a glimpse of the 2021-22 Huskers, who are coming off a third-place finish at the 2021 Big Ten Championships and a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. The Huskers return 29 letterwinners.
UNK is coming off a season in which the Lopers posted a 10-1 overall mark. UNK also posted a perfect 6-0 dual record en route to a second-place finish at the 2021 Division II NCAA Championships under sixth-year Head Coach Dalton Jensen.
