A biopic based on former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland‘s life is reportedly being developed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dark Pictures is working on Paper Heart, a movie based on the life of Weiland, who also fronted Velvet Revolver. Weiland died in 2015 at age 48.
Dark Pictures and Orian Williams have acquired the book rights to Not Dead & Not for Sale, Weiland’s memoir that was written with David Ritz. Jennifer Erwin, co-founder of Dark Pictures, and Anne Beagan will pen the script for the movie.
“It’s an honor to have the trust to tell Scott’s story and the ability to portray the lesser known sides of him – the loving and tender man he was, the high school athlete he was, the melancholy soul he was and the legendary frontman that he will always be,” Erwin said in a statement.
“Scott was glamorous, complicated and wounded. His childhood had a big effect on his struggles with addiction,” Beagan added in her own statement.
Weiland formed the Stone Temple Pilots along with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo. They enjoyed success from 1989 to 2002, which included their debut album Core as well as 1994 Billboard 200 topper Purple.
Weiland later joined former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum in a supergroup called Velvet Revolver. He left in 2008 and returned to Stone Temple Pilots, who eventually fired him in 2013.
Weiland was found dead in the bunk of his tour bus on December 3, 2015, in a hotel parking lot just south of Minneapolis, due to an accidental overdose.
